The Varsity Oilskin caps are made from traditional Scottish oilskin, which gives the cap a great surface and nostalgic feel. The material is sourced from Dundee in Scotland, and has water-repellent properties. As the oil in the cap dries out, you will see the cap change character and get a unique “patina” effect. Varsity’s Oilskin caps are one of their most durable and weather-resistant caps designed for everyday use. If you do not want this effect, it is recommended to use Varsity’s Reproofing wax, so that the cap retains its shine.
Due to the natural oil in the cap, it is not recommended to wash Oilskin caps. Should a stain occur, it can be removed with a damp cloth. Feel free to apply a layer of Reproofing wax if you want to maintain the natural shine of the cap.
